Anyone with an ounce of intelligence could have easily predicted that a western remake of controversial Japanese action/horror flick Battle Royale would be on the cards at some point in the future. Kinji Fukasaku’s original quickly became a cult hit with Asian Extreme fans and has enjoyed a successful run in the DVD market, so the inevitability of a re-make was evident. The studio that stepped forward to close the deal was New Line and that’s pretty much all we know so far - apart from the fact that Neil Moritz and Roy Lee will be producing the project, but taking a look at their previous work, I think it’s best to try and ignore that piece of information.
