Halo Movie Assigned a Director

The highly anticipated big-screen adaption of popular video game “Halo” has finally, after months of non-stop fanboy speculation, had it’s directorial position filled. Neill Blomkamp, a visual effects expert that has worked on TV shows such as Smallville and Stargate SG, is the person with the rather difficult task of heading this intensely scrutinized project. It will be his first time in the director’s chair but with Peter Jackson in place as a producer and WETA Digitial already confirmed for visual effects duties, Blomkamp will have an experienced and competent set of colleagues to support his expectedly lavish debut. The right man for the job? I really could not even begin to comprehend whether Mr. Blomkamp has what it takes to create a faithful and entertaining video game adaption. It has proved a tough job even for the most accomplished of directors, so whether or not this guy will be the man to bring the business of video game to silver screen transitions into the critically and/or publicly acclaimed limelight, is a topic that I will leave to the fanboys - who are probably feeling partially relieved at this moment in time, because as a result of the appointment, we all now know that Uwe Boll definitely won’t be going anywhere near the project.
