After having taken a 2 week hiatus from the western world, I felt I’d better catch up on all the trailers I missed whilst I was away. So today I got down to business and sat through a veritable host of videos, from which I have picked some of the more competent and interesting offerings to impose my opinions upon. During the process, despite sitting through trailers ranging from very good to almost suicide worthy, I decided that I may make this a regular monthly feature, hence the #1 in the title. Anyway, without further ado. Read the rest of this entry »

Paramount have revealed that Mission Impossible III will be the first ever movie to get a full release on all 3 disc formats: DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Scheduled for a US release on October 30, the different versions will offer some unique extras, with the HD-DVD version apparently getting an “enhanced commentary”. As for us here in the UK, there’s been no word on what is going to happen with our November 13 release, whether we’re treated to the new formats or have to make do with the old, it remains to be seen.

Neill Blomkamp, a visual effects expert that has worked on TV shows such as Smallville and Stargate SG, is the person with the rather difficult task of heading this intensely scrutinized project. It will be his first time in the director’s chair but with Peter Jackson in place as a producer and WETA Digitial already confirmed for visual effects duties, Blomkamp will have an experienced and competent set of colleagues to support his expectedly lavish debut. The right man for the job? I really could not even begin to comprehend whether Mr. Blomkamp has what it takes to create a faithful and entertaining video game adaption. Read the rest of this entry »

Earlier reports suggesting that Bill Pullman was lined up to star as Philip K. Dick in his upcoming biopic have been challenged today by a number of news sources that believe Paul Giamatti could now be the one to step up to the plate. The project is currently untitled and is set to be written by Tony Grisoni - a company involved in Dick’s own estate, Electric Shepherd Productions, will be running the whole operation and overseeing the writing of the screenplay, which according to Empire “will apparently blend elements of the writer’s life with his writing and also find room for chunks of his last, unfinished tome, The Owl In Daylight.”
