Amongst a host of announcements for upcoming sequels including Legally Blonde 3, Cutting Edge 3, Into the Blue 2 and Species 4, MGM have revealed that a sequel to 1983’s cult hit, War Games, is on the cards. A recent press release stated that the movie is “Scheduled to begin shooting in Montreal in November” and will be a “thrilling story of what happens when top officials try to dismantle the famous computer.” As /Film quite soundly put it, it does look like some kind of “half-ass made for television or direct to dvd feature” - well, I couldn’t agree more. The first film was pretty decent and a crappy sequel will ruin it’s legacy.

Some sequels are quite fitting (The Godfather 2), but some just lose the plot (The Next Karate Kid anyone?), I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for this one to fit into the former category…oh wait a minute, I mean I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it gets a score upwards of 3 on IMDB.
