Starship Troopers 3 Planned

November 30th, 2006

Starship TroopersIt seems that Starship Troopers is back for a third outing - hopefully to make amends after the awful sequel from 2004. Edward Neumeier is back, once again, on screenplay duties and will also be taking the directorial chair this time too, leaving Phil Tippett completely out of the equation. Starship Troopers never looked like a series and it seems that Ed Neumeier is alone in thinking that his crappy individual outings are any good. But, Empire have reported that he is trying to ensnare Casper Van Dien in his plot to revive the Troopers, so maybe there is some hope for the prophecy yet. When contacted for a quote, Van Dien said “I’m doing my part!”. Read the rest of this entry »

Raimi to Direct the Hobbit?

November 24th, 2006

Sam RaimiFollowing reports that Peter Jackson will not be involved in the big-screen adaption of The Hobbit, are rumours that Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spiderman) may be linked with the project. Of course, however exciting and interesting a prospect that may prove to be, petitions are still being sodomized at rate of knots as fans of the LotR movies attempt to persuade New Line (who own the rights) to get Peter Jackson back in for one more bite of Tolkien’s apple, so to speak. Even Sir Ian Mckellen wants Jacko back: “I’m very sad” said Mckellen on his official site. “I should have relished revisiting Middle Earth with Peter again. It’s hard to imagine any other director matching his achievement in Tolkien country.” Sam Raimi? Peter Jackson? Either would do, just please don’t let Ron Howard near it. Order of the Phoenix Teaser Online

November 23rd, 2006

Harry Potter - Order of the PhoenixI’ve been so busy that I actually missed this completely, a shameful oversight I know. That aside, Warner Bros have released a minuscule snippet of action from the 5th Harry Potter film (Order of the Phoenix) showing Daniel Radcliffe, in all his hair-cropped glory and Dumbledore delivering a bit of of one of his usual, influential speeches. The teaser is pretty brief (hence it being a ‘teaser’) but will no doubt cause gushing palates all-round amongst the countless online HP communities, who would probably wax lyrical even if it looked crap. Anyway, you can still check the trailer out over at the official site - enjoy.

Sacha Signs up for Sweeney

November 14th, 2006

Sacha Baron CohenSacha Baron Cohen (Ali G, Borat) has joined the cast for the Dreamwork’s/Warner Bro’s flick Sweeney Todd. Cohen has signed up for the role of Signor Adolfo Pirelli (as far as I know he’s not remotely Kazakh), who - as Variety put it - is the “nemesis” barber of the infamous Sweeney Todd. The project will be led by the eccentric fingertips of Tim Burton and is due to begin shooting in London during February next year. It’s sure to be a barberous affair…(don’t lie, you chuckled at that). Read the rest of this entry »

Casino Royale Impresses Critics

November 13th, 2006

Casino RoyaleBond’s latest offering is nearly upon us and it seems that the critics are kneeling down and laying the red carpet as opposed to raining on the parade. Almost all the reviews I have come across over the past few days have been predominantly positive and I am yet to find one which condemns Casino Royale as a boring and generic affair. 4 stars from Empire, full thumbs up from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, 4 stars from the BBC, the list goes on. After the farce that was Die Another Day (who really bought the invisible car gadget?), a return to form for Bond would be like the triumphant comeback of Batman or Middle Earth after the ring ran it’s course, in other words, sweet sweet restitution. Head on over to Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB for a full round-up of the high profile articles.

Wilmer Talks CHiPS

November 9th, 2006
CHiPS

If you’ve never seen or even heard of the American cop drama “CHiPS” then you were probably born in the 90’s and have a life which doesn’t allow you to watch Bravo on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Well, as with most things retro, there’s a film adaptation on the way and Wilmer Valderrama (you may know him as Fez from “That 70’s Show”) who is set to play Ponch, recently talked to Rotten Tomatoes about the project, which - I might add - is currently in pre-production.

The Host Hits Hollywood

November 4th, 2006
The Host

Dear God, when will Roy Lee quit? The world’s biggest re-make whore (The Ring, The Grudge, their sequels and a host of upcoming titles including Oldboy and The Eye) has this week struck up a deal with Universal Pictures which will allow him to produce an English version of Joon Ho-Bong’s excellent monster/horror/comedy, The Host. From Variety Asia: “Producers have yet to set either a scripter or a helmer. Although the pic is a simple monster-cum-hostage move, the retread will likely need some tweaking. Korean story had social and political undertones that included sideswipes at the U.S., which has a large military presence in Korea.” Maybe they’ll get this one right…
