Dear God, when will Roy Lee quit? The world’s biggest re-make whore (The Ring, The Grudge, their sequels and a host of upcoming titles including Oldboy and The Eye) has this week struck up a deal with Universal Pictures which will allow him to produce an English version of Joon Ho-Bong’s excellent monster/horror/comedy, The Host. From Variety Asia: “Producers have yet to set either a scripter or a helmer. Although the pic is a simple monster-cum-hostage move, the retread will likely need some tweaking. Korean story had social and political undertones that included sideswipes at the U.S., which has a large military presence in Korea.” Maybe they’ll get this one right…
