Gattaca >> Review

April 26th, 2007

GattacaAmongst the crowded pantheon of modern sci-fi flicks, there stands a film often overlooked by many; a modern classic overshadowed by its pr-driven counterparts. Gattaca is a science fiction drama set in a future where a new generation of genetically modified humans are considered to be socially superior. Anyone born naturally is dubbed a ‘godchild’ and is, essentially, part of a weaker social order. Vincent (Ethan Hawke) happens to be exactly this and his genetic flaws stand between him and his dream of going to space, an aspiration he can only achieve as a member of an elite company: Gattaca Corp. Last House on the Left…for Kids

April 25th, 2007

Last House on the LeftYes, it seems that scheduled re-make of Wes Craven’s excellently brutal ‘Last House on the Left’ is going to be a much tamer than the original. Mr Craven tried his best dispel such murmurings with some textbook spiel: “I think it’s probably the film I’ve made the hardcore fans respect the most because it’s just so brutal,” he said. “We don’t want to do it quite that brutal because it’s also just a great story. Bergman did the story and before that it was a medieval story so we’re going to try to split the difference.” But of course, skepticism is in my nature and I can’t see the film retaining its original presence. There will obviously be that unmistakable Craven sparkle to it, but that will probably be obscured by commercial studio smog. These Hollywood money spinning schemes of re-packaging classics is nothing less than a messy rape of the horror genre’s distinguished heritage, [Preacher Persona] oh lord when will it stop? [End Preacher Persona].

Good News Regarding Catwoman?

April 13th, 2007

CatwomanHalle Berry has announced that she won’t play Catwoman again - ever. Well personally I think that’s good. Anyone that saw Catwoman will know what I’m talking about; watching that film was about as fun as having Gary Glitter as my Uncle. The tight suit wasn’t even good, it just made me wonder whether or not Halle Berry was going to die of asphyxiation before I died of boredom. Wow, not much news in that post! Who cares, lets rejoice in the hope that the next Catwoman will be better…at everything!

Kevin Smith Reveals Red State

April 8th, 2007

Kevin SmithRemember that recent Louis Theroux documentary about the most hated family in America? (If not, here’s the YouTube link) Well, in a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Kevin Smith revealed that he was planning a film entitled Red State “inspired by Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, a controversial church group made largely of members of the Phelps family and run by preacher Fred Phelps. [The Church] is infamous in America for taking a supremely homophobic stance and for picketing the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq, the group see media interviews as a platform for airing their views and the word of their founder, Fred Phelps. very much about that subject matter, that point of view and that position taken to the absolute extreme.” Interesting huh?
