It’s the start of the month so technically I watched these films in April, but it doesn’t particularly matter because if you just so happen to take my advice and watch one of these three gems then you’ll probably be doing it in the month specified in the title, hmmm. Anyway, I’ll not burden you with my useless introductory ramblings any longer, head on down to the main body of the article and behold the choosing of my top 3 recently watched films come to fruition. The Hollywood remake of extreme Japanese flick Battle Royale has been predictably postponed in the wake of the recent tragic events at Virginia Tech. The concept of Battle Royale pits schoolmates against each other in a battle to the death - essentially a game of ‘last man standing’. Clearly the studio feels the subject matter is too offensive for the American public or at least for the few strong voices that may have the tools to damage their commercial reputation. Oh well, I really hope this project soon goes on indefinite hiatus anyway, stupid Roy Lee..he loves to ruin all of my favourite imports.

As an unashamed fan of Jason Statham’s endless sub-par forays into the world of action cinema, I woke up this morning happy to be greeted by the news that the next Crank movie will indeed be a sequel and not - as rumoured - a prequel. Brian taylor and Mark Neveldine, the duo behind the writing and directing of the first film spoke to The Movie Blog: “There will be a sequel to Crank yes. Prepare to Crank again. And you know the ‘is it a sequel or prequel’ question… IT’S A SEQUEL. We’re not selling out and going prequel. We are picking up where the last movie left off.” I guess that pretty much spells it out for you. Needless to say, expect more gratuitous violence and tongue-in-cheek hi-jinks.
