Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Ka-fai (Dumplings, Election) was today convicted of assaulting Chong Pui-kin, a bus driver, after a traffic accident which occurred in 2002. Leung was ordered to pay HK$40,000 (US$5,120) in damages, which is a considerable amount less than the HK$3.2 million ($410,000) that the driver was originally suing for. Despite ruling in Chong Pui-Kin’s favour, the judge described the assault as “grossly exaggerated” - hence the small fine. This isn’t really big news, but I thought it was pretty interesting nonetheless, I’m a big fan of Leung and his work, so it’s nice to see him get off lightly (not that I’m condoning crime). If the judge’s words are anything to go by, he probably just pinched him anyway.
