Uwe Boll Titles Picked up by Freestyle
God knows how these blithering idiots managed to live to adulthood, but it seems that a bunch of people over at Freestyle Releasing have picked up 3 Uwe Boll films for US distribution. In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, Postal and Seed are the titles in question and I, for one, am readily opposed to their release anywhere…ever. Uwe Boll has shit on cinema a few too many times and it gives me great pains to witness his terrible work being successful. Here’s a little bit of advice for you: if you ever find yourself in a situation where you may have to watch, or even just glimpse, part of a Uwe Boll film, take both index fingers and drive them through your eyes and ears. I hadn’t heard so much as a whisper about this film until this morning, maybe it’s because I don’t really care for Paul Giamatti, but nevertheless, a fairly flashy and exciting trailer has officially been released and I feel it’s my duty to inform you of such an event. As far as I can gather, the film is about a guy named Mr. Smith (Clive Owen - Children of Men, Closer) who takes it upon himself to protect a women and her child from a hired hitman (Giamatti) who wants nothing more than to get the job done. What ensues involves guns and violence - fun, fun fun. 
Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Ka-fai (Dumplings, Election) was today convicted of assaulting Chong Pui-kin, a bus driver, after a traffic accident which occurred in 2002. Leung was ordered to pay HK$40,000 (US$5,120) in damages, which is a considerable amount less than the HK$3.2 million ($410,000) that the driver was originally suing for. Despite ruling in Chong Pui-Kin’s favour, the judge described the assault as “grossly exaggerated” - hence the small fine. This isn’t really big news, but I thought it was pretty interesting nonetheless, I’m a big fan of Leung and his work, so it’s nice to see him get off lightly (not that I’m condoning crime). If the judge’s words are anything to go by, he probably just pinched him anyway. 
With the release date of Live Free or Die Hard (a crappy title if you’re asking me) looming, Bruce Willis has already been out and about spreading rumours that a 5th Die Hard movie could be on the horizon. “Fox is already talking about doing another one.” Willis told journalists at a recent press junket “I told them I would only do it if Len (Wiseman) was involved. And Maggie Q. Oh, yeah…And Justin (Long) of course. We couldn’t do it without Justin.” Of course, I’ll have to see Live Free or Die Hard before I can say whether I’m excited by these possibilities, but it’ll have to be bloody good to convince me to keep pumping money into sequels. Oh well, I’ll no doubt end up getting brainwashed by the trailers anyway - I usually do.
On the heels of 2005’s blockbuster The 40-Year-Old Virgin, writer/director Judd Apatow again mines hilarity from the relatably human in a comedy about a one-night stand with unexpected consequences: Knocked Up. Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy, Roswell) joins Virgin alums Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann for a comic look about the best thing that will ever ruin your best-laid plans: parenthood. Notorious for scaring audiences with Ringu (The Ring) and Honogurai Mizu no Soko Kara (Dark Water), director Hideo Nakata and producer Taka Ichise are teaming up once again for a new project which is to be partially based on a real Japanese murder case. Current details are rather scarce, but we do know that newcomer Eric Heisserer will pen the screenplay and that 20th Century Fox and Regency Pictures are the companies on board.
