I know it’s incredibly sad that I made this connection, but someone I know pointed out that ‘Boys Will Be Boys’ by The Ordinary Boys was being played in the Gryffindor common room in the latest Harry Potter film, Order of the Phoenix, but isn’t that book supposed to be set around 1996 or so? That song wasn’t released until 2005 on the album Brassbound…soooo..can wizards summon music from the future or what? Just a thought, or, rather, an identification of a mistake!

I wish I was Daniel Craig. Not only does he get to roll around with attractive women in exotic places in his role as world’s suavest man, but he’s now also going to become the highest paid British actor in the world thanks to a deal worth £13m. According to The Sunday Express, Craig is set to receive £5m for the upcoming Bond 22 and then a further £8m for the 23rd instalment in the Bond franchise. And what’s more, James Bond isn’t Craig’s only work at the moment, he’s going to pop-up in quite a few productions over the next few years which will no doubt fill his pocket and cement his star status. Lucky bastard. If he wasn’t such a good actor, I’d hate him. Read the rest of this entry »

After having just finished watching Infernal Affairs II (for the third time) I have concluded that all Western actors in Asian films are merely planks of wood dressed up to look like people. I mean, if Hollywood films can get the best Asian actors to cameo, surely it can work the other way too? Hell, Takeshi Kitano was in Johnny Mnemonic for god’s sake and all Ong-Bak can get is a bunch of backwards freaks with about as much charisma as a bunch of comatose dogs. If you’re wondering why Infernal Affairs II brought on this rant, it was the purportedly British police, who couldn’t have been more boring, I yawned for the full 5 seconds they were on screen, right before attempting suicide. Let’s have Bill Nighy and Liam Neeson suited up, add some star quality to the force! Read the rest of this entry »

As you may know, I have a soft spot for films hailing from the far east; Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Thailand and so on. Therefore I decided to sit down and make a list of the real defining films that hail from such territories. I’m sure a lot of people would disagree with some of my choices, but let me stress that I’m not branding this list ‘The Top 10 Best Asian Films Ever’, I’ve merely created a list based upon my own personal opinion. The process of choosing the titles for the list was incredibly hard and I had to leave some ridiculously good films out of the final 10, but what the hell, all of the final movies are literally badass…I suppose you shall all draw your own conclusions anyway. Forge ahead! Read the rest of this entry »

X-Men spin-off flick Wolverine has finally been assigned a director and a start date for shooting. Tsotsi’s Gavin Hood shall be assuming the directorial helm and shooting shall commence towards the end of this year, in November, with the project’s release date being slated for late 2008. With regard to plot, it’s already been revealed that the story will detail the origins of Logan’s hatred for Victor Creed (Sabretooth) and the reasons for his entrance to the Weapon X program, through which he received his adamantium skeleton. Should be interesting anyway. Read the rest of this entry »

Don’t fret my friends, my absence was merely temporary and now, I am back to litter your mind with news of the next couple of Bond movies. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Daniel Craig recently stated in an interview with newspaper The Daily Express that the producers of the films want “more gags”, especially after the gunmetal shades of emotion displayed in Casino Royale. “The next one’s going to be a lot funnier. Octopussy and Pussy Galore-style gags. They’re all great names — but that’s the thing, the Bond jokes will be flipped on their heads.” he said, continuing to express that a more human, less macho version of Bond is what he wants to personally achieve with the character, “Bond is supposedly the most male moment [in film] but to me he’s never been macho. That Bond is something that Sean Connery created in Dr. No, there’s no point in trying to compete with every Bond that came before. You manage to make it your own.” Codename Bond 22 (the next film) is due to begin shooting at the end of this year and shall hit our screens sometime in 2008, rumours also slate Bond 23 for a 2010 release.

Thus far, this summer’s wide releases haven’t been particularly well-received by the critics, Spider-man 3 achieved a fairly average 61% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and Pirates of the Caribbean didn’t even get half marks, accomplishing a measly 46%. But, it seems that the next phase of blockbusters is faring a little better with Live Free or Die Hard picking up 78%, the first few reviews determining Transformers to be 82% and Ratatouille being awarded a whopping 95%. What does this upward trend dictate then? Oh yeah, it means The Bourne Ultimatum is going to amazing - excellent! But seriously, at least it means we can enjoy some fairly decent entertainment over the coming few months.
