Bond 22 to be Funnier, Bond 23…Exists

July 18th, 2007

James BondDon’t fret my friends, my absence was merely temporary and now, I am back to litter your mind with news of the next couple of Bond movies. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Daniel Craig recently stated in an interview with newspaper The Daily Express that the producers of the films want “more gags”, especially after the gunmetal shades of emotion displayed in Casino Royale. “The next one’s going to be a lot funnier. Octopussy and Pussy Galore-style gags. They’re all great names — but that’s the thing, the Bond jokes will be flipped on their heads.” he said, continuing to express that a more human, less macho version of Bond is what he wants to personally achieve with the character, “Bond is supposedly the most male moment [in film] but to me he’s never been macho. That Bond is something that Sean Connery created in Dr. No, there’s no point in trying to compete with every Bond that came before. You manage to make it your own.” Codename Bond 22 (the next film) is due to begin shooting at the end of this year and shall hit our screens sometime in 2008, rumours also slate Bond 23 for a 2010 release.

Summer Blockbusters and Critics

July 1st, 2007

Summer BlockbustersThus far, this summer’s wide releases haven’t been particularly well-received by the critics, Spider-man 3 achieved a fairly average 61% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and Pirates of the Caribbean didn’t even get half marks, accomplishing a measly 46%. But, it seems that the next phase of blockbusters is faring a little better with Live Free or Die Hard picking up 78%, the first few reviews determining Transformers to be 82% and Ratatouille being awarded a whopping 95%. What does this upward trend dictate then? Oh yeah, it means The Bourne Ultimatum is going to amazing - excellent! But seriously, at least it means we can enjoy some fairly decent entertainment over the coming few months.

Goya’s Ghosts >> Images

June 27th, 2007

Goya's GhostsFrom two-time Academy Award winning director Milos Forman and three-time Academy Award winning producer Saul Zaentz, Goya’s Ghosts is a sweeping historical epic, told through the eyes of celebrated Spanish painter Francisco Goya. Set against the backdrop of political turmoil at the end of the Spanish Inquisition and start of the invasion of Spain by Napoleon’s army, the film captures the essence and beauty of Goya’s work which is best known for both the colorful depictions of the royal court and its people, and his grim depictions of the brutality of war and life in 18th century Spain. Javier Bardem is Brother Lorenzo, an enigmatic, cunning member of the Inquisition’s inner circle who becomes infatuated with Goya’s teenage muse, Ines, when she is falsely accused of heresy and sent to prison. Saw IV Director Hypes Ending

June 25th, 2007

SawIt looks like the end of Saw IV is going to be a bit of a shocker if director Darren Lynn Bousman’s comments are anything to go by: “When I first read it, I was on page 85 but I didn’t feel any way about it, I wasn’t pissed or excited really until I got to page 87. When I hit page 87, I was like ‘God damn it, they got me!’ And I’ve fucking done this for the last three years and they got me and that’s when I knew that I had to come back because everything before that thing took a whole different light to it.” The Saw series is notorious for it’s unexpected and often ingenious narrative twists, but Bousman’s really sold it to me this time, I mean, it shocked a guy who already knew quite a lot about it! What’s it going to do to me? Read the rest of this entry »

The 100 Greatest Movies of All Time

June 22nd, 2007

The 100 Greatest Movies of All TimeThe American Film Institute has once again released it’s annually updated list of the “Top 100 Greatest Movies of All-Time”. I personally disagree with a fair few placements, but then again, who am I? I am no film scholar! All I know is that The Shawshank Redemption is better than Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - so a gulf of 38 places seems absurd. Maybe I’ll compile my own list, that’ll show them. At the top? Uhhh, an Asian film, you know I’m a sucker for those foreign flicks. Wow, this post was a little more informal than usual. Anyway, read on and experience the AFI list. Read the rest of this entry »
