In Wong Kar Wai’s debut English language feature, the internationally acclaimed director takes his audience on a dramatic journey across the distance between heartbreak and a new beginning. After a rough break-up, Elizabeth (played by songstress Norah Jones in her screen debut) sets out on a journey across America, leaving behind a life of memories, a dream and a soulful new friend; a café owner (Jude Law)—all while in search of something to mend her broken heart. Waitressing her way through the country, Elizabeth befriends others whose yearnings are greater than hers, including a troubled cop (David Strathairn) and his estranged wife (Rachel Weisz) and a down-on-her luck gambler (Natalie Portman) with a score to settle. Renowned horror novelist Mike Enslin (John Cusack - Con Air, High Fidelity) only believes what he can see with his own two eyes. After a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world, he scoffs at the concept of an afterlife. Enslin’s phantom-free run of long and lonely nights is about to change forever when he checks into suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel for his latest project, “Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms.” Defying the warnings of the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson - Pulp Fiction, Snakes on a Plane), the author is the first person in years to stay in the reputedly haunted room. Another bestseller may be imminent, but like all Stephen King heroes, Enslin must go from skeptic to true believer — and ultimately survive the night. Read the rest of this entry »

Dieter Dengler was a fighter pilot who was gunned down and captured during the Vietnam war; he then staged a remarkable break-out from the camp in which he was interned. Rescue Dawn finds Christian Bale (Batman Returns, The Machinist) playing Dengler in this adaptation of his life, while famed and controversial filmmaker Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man, The White Diamond) takes on directing duties. This is yet another one of my famed image galleries full of..well…just pictures if I’m honest - but it is interesting nonetheless! Read the rest of this entry »

Daniel Radcliffe (he’s Harry Potter - just in case you didn’t know/are some kind of hermit) stars in this Rod Hardy-directed feature based on the Michael Noonan novel of the same title. Looking back on their childhood orphan experiences, the film’s now-adult narrators reflect on one particular summer at the sea, in which several boys competed against one another to be rescued from their Australian orphanage fate. Elisha Cuthbert (The Girl Next Door, Old School) plays a fashion icon (that’s what IMDB tells me anyway!) who is kidnapped and forced to endure a multitude of sick and twisted games which pray upon her childhood fears in this thriller from Roland Joffé, the guy that brought us Goodbye Lover, the Oscar-nominated Vatel and…ahem…Super Mario Bros. Also starring Daniel Gillies (Spider-man 2, Bride & Prejudice) and Laz Alonso (Constantine, Jarhead). Read the rest of this entry »

Transformers is the long-awaited live action (though CGI heavy) action flick based on the cult cartoon and toys from the 80s. Official condensed synopsis: “As the forces of evil seek the key to ultimate power, our last chance for survival rests in the hands of young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf).” This is all rather true and now, to seal the deal, here is a gallery of production stills and screen caps from the movie.
