Scorsese to do The Departed 2?

February 1st, 2007

The DepartedThe movie modeled on one of my all-time favourite H.K. flicks (Infernal Affairs) is apparently now going to get a sequel. The Departed, which managed to gross an impressive $122m in the US alone, is going to receive a follow-up which William Monahan is scheduled to pen and will apparently involve the return of Mark Wahlberg’s character and the introduction of a new mob boss which is supposedly being specifically written for Robert De Niro, who couldn’t be in the first movie due to directorial obligations to The Good Shepherd. I guess if this goes well, Warner Bros. will adapt the third Infernal Affairs movie too, fingers crossed then?

Raimi to Direct the Hobbit?

November 24th, 2006

Sam RaimiFollowing reports that Peter Jackson will not be involved in the big-screen adaption of The Hobbit, are rumours that Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spiderman) may be linked with the project. Of course, however exciting and interesting a prospect that may prove to be, petitions are still being sodomized at rate of knots as fans of the LotR movies attempt to persuade New Line (who own the rights) to get Peter Jackson back in for one more bite of Tolkien’s apple, so to speak. Even Sir Ian Mckellen wants Jacko back: “I’m very sad” said Mckellen on his official site. “I should have relished revisiting Middle Earth with Peter again. It’s hard to imagine any other director matching his achievement in Tolkien country.” Sam Raimi? Peter Jackson? Either would do, just please don’t let Ron Howard near it. Kim Jee-Woon Goes West

October 31st, 2006
Kim Jee-Woon

The man that brought us A Tale of Two Sisters, The Quiet Family and A Bittersweet Life is supposedly getting ready to start production on his next film which is currently dubbed The Good, the Bad and the Weird. The movie is apparently going to be “an idiosyncratic western set on the plains of Manchuria.” and is set to star Sang Kang-Ho whom we have seen in Joon Ho-Bong’s Memories of Murder and The Host. In recent years we’ve seen Jee-Woon successfully direct a black comedy, a horror flick and an action-thriller, so surely he’ll be able to pull off a good old western flick with considerable style.

Jackie Chan’s Dirty Past

October 1st, 2006
Jackie Chan

I just stumbled across this story and thought that it was too funny not to share with anyone. Martial Arts superstar Jackie Chan recently revealed to The Sun (already, you can see that it wasn’t a wise choice) that about 30 years ago, he starred in a racy movie entitled “All In the Family” - oh god. “I had to do anything I could to make a living,” Chan explained, “but I don’t think it’s a big deal. Even Marlon Brando used to be exposed in his movies.” Exposed, yes. But in a film called “All In The Family”? It’s a different situation altogether. Oh Jackie, we hope you’ve learned your lesson. In other ‘adult’ news, Kate Winslet recently said she’d be happy to kill paedophiles. I’m not sure about you but I think I’d rather leave that kind of stuff to the police. Anyway, what a strange post, I promise I’ll keep news like this to a minimum, well, I’ll try at least.

Fraser for The Mummy 3

September 12th, 2006
The Mummy

Rick O’Connell, everyone’s favourite adventurer, may be hitting our screens once again in the third movie of what would consequently be, The Mummy trilogy. According to Rotten Tomatoes, rumours have been circulating that Brendan Fraser has already signed on to do the project and that filming may start as soon as next spring. The script is going to be penned by Smallville partners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and will apparently be offering us a slightly original spin on what we’ve already seen. Sadly, Rachel Weisz and Oded Fehr are yet to be connected with the project, but Weisz did recently say to French site EcranLarge.com that she knows there’s a new script, but hasn’t read it yet. The Hobbit Movie Scheduled?

September 1st, 2006
Lord of the Rings

A rumour indicating that New Line Cinema are planning to make a big screen adaption of the Lord of the Rings prequel “The Hobbit” have come to me today by way of Dark Horizons, having originally been cited at OneRing.net. The popular LotR fansite stated that one of their spies had managed to catch a glimpse of the upcoming New Line Cinema production schedule and that “The Hobbit” was down for a July 2007 production start. Dark Horizons believe that the rumour is very shaky and I feel inclined to agree, although if the project is legitimate then I sincerely hope that Peter Jackson will be getting his claws into it.

Paul Giamatti as Dick Himself?

August 9th, 2006
Paul Giamatti

Earlier reports suggesting that Bill Pullman was lined up to star as Philip K. Dick in his upcoming biopic have been challenged today by a number of news sources that believe Paul Giamatti could now be the one to step up to the plate. The project is currently untitled and is set to be written by Tony Grisoni - a company involved in Dick’s own estate, Electric Shepherd Productions, will be running the whole operation and overseeing the writing of the screenplay, which according to Empire “will apparently blend elements of the writer’s life with his writing and also find room for chunks of his last, unfinished tome, The Owl In Daylight.”

Comic-Con Movie News Update

July 21st, 2006
Comic-Con 2006

As you may or may not know, world famous comic convention Comic-Con has been going on for the past couple of days over in San Diego, California. There have been a number of interesting announcements related to the world of film, many of which shed light on previously hazy situations. First up, was a little bit of plot info regarding the sequel to Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later” (which Boyle will not be a part of). “28 Weeks Later picks up six months after the Rage virus has decimated the city of London . The US Army has restored order and is repopulating the quarantined city, when a carrier of the Rage virus enters London and unknowingly re-ignites the spread of the deadly infection, wreaking havoc on the entire population.” Plot holes and problems? Yes, as we all predicted.

Roger Michel to Direct Next Bond Film?

July 17th, 2006
James Bond

“Casino Royale” hasn’t even seen the light of day yet, but it seems that the team behind Mr Bond’s big screen escapades are already planning his next outing. Codenamed “Bond 22″, the project currently has no script in place but according to Empire may have a rough plot outline derived from an idea that Bond producer Michael Wilson came up with. Another piece of speculative news that has been flying around is the indication that a director has already been approached with regard to stepping into Martin Campell’s shoes. Roger Michel has been linked with the negotiation of a deal, but as always with rumours - nothing has been finalized!

Denzel to Star as Master Chief?

July 14th, 2006
Denzel Washington

More rumours surrounding Peter Jackson’s upcoming big screen adaption of Halo have surfaced today with a number of websites reporting that Denzel Washington could be up for the role of Master Chief. According to Rotten Tomatoes Washington recently met with Jackson to discuss working together - but as you can probably tell, there is no stone cold evidence to suggest that they will be collaboarting on this particular movie, even though Denzel would probably make the perfect Master Chief. “Halo” is scheduled for an estimated release in 2008 and despite popular assumption, currently has no director (Jackson is executive producer) although Hellboy fanatic Guillermo Del Toro has been loosely linked with the project.
