So I was doing my usual rounds today, checking all the major scoop sites for something that may be of interest to me and this new D-War trailer appeared to be a rather regular fixture. It may have been the awesome posters that drew me in, but it was the trailer that really got me excited; after all, the last Korean monster I saw was The Host and that was fantastic. The trailer is short but, as I’m sure you’ll agree, intriguing, with the final scene depicting a large serpent-like dragon curled around a skyscraper in a King-Kong meets Anaconda sort-of fashion (if you have any better serpent examples, send them in, there’s no need to glorify a snake that killed Ice Cube). I had actually heard about the project before, but as such things do, it had slipped from my mind and I wasn’t expecting it to appear in such a fashion. Read the rest of this entry »

A deadly military-developed virus is leaked to the public causing a pandemic and killing everyone and everything, Robert Neville survived, alone. However, unbeknown to him, the rest of the population have been turned into bloodthirsty vampires and, well, you know what kind of awesome action sequences that could provoke! Anyway, I am of course talking about I Am Legend, a film which boasts the most expensive scene of all time ($5m - the scene on Brooklyn bridge) and a rather intriguing storyline. Starring Will Smith (I, Robot, Independence Day), the project went through an unbelievable amount of false starts before getting going and finally, it seems to be pretty much finished and fairly good - thanks to Francis Lawrence. The trailer went live yesterday and can be caught over at Apple Trailers.

I hadn’t heard so much as a whisper about this film until this morning, maybe it’s because I don’t really care for Paul Giamatti, but nevertheless, a fairly flashy and exciting trailer has officially been released and I feel it’s my duty to inform you of such an event. As far as I can gather, the film is about a guy named Mr. Smith (Clive Owen - Children of Men, Closer) who takes it upon himself to protect a women and her child from a hired hitman (Giamatti) who wants nothing more than to get the job done. What ensues involves guns and violence - fun, fun fun. Read the rest of this entry »

Any fans of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy will be excited to learn that a trailer has been released for the first movie adaption in the series, The Golden Compass (based on the book Northern Lights). Handled by the same studio as Lord of the Rings, the trailer begins with a rather well-known golden ring turning into a similarly dazzling compass; no doubt a marketing stunt emphasising what we should be expecting. But, whilst not looking as ‘epic’ as Lord of the Rings, it certainly does look relatively entertaining. The effects appear to be rather spectacular (apart from, perhaps, the polar bear) and Nicole Kidman could be described as agreeable as well. Did I say agreeable? You know what I meant. The trailer is online in various formats over at Yahoo Movies.

Hot on the tail of Stallone’s fairly average revival of the Rocky series, comes his equally unexpected attempt to prolong the life of John Rambo. Rambo 4 (actually entitled John Rambo, but I’ll call it Rambo 4 because that’s what it is) follows a geriatric Stallone as he attempts to save a group of - let’s face it - foolish Christian missionaries who venture into a Burmese war zone in a desperate bid to save innocent civilians. A special 3 and a half minute teaser has been compiled for some of the journalism folk at Cannes and it makes the film look absolutely hilarious. The clip features exploding heads, dismemberment, asphyxiation and some good old fashioned gun play - all of these things are categorised under the ‘bad-ass’ column in my book. Of course, there’s obviously a lot of fake emotion alongside this to lead you into (and give a point to) the action; but we all know that Rambo just likes to kill people for fun anyway. A spot from the guys over at twitch, the Crows Zero website has been updated with a new extended teaser trailer. To find the new clip just head to the official Crows Zero site, skip the flash intro movie and click the self explanatory ‘trailers’ button to get the usual choice of sizes, then sit back and relax…for all of about 30 seconds. I’ve actually heard very little about Crows Zero, which is rather inexcusable because I’m a rather big Takashi Miike fan; mainly because I’m in awe at how he can reel off so many incredible films in such short periods of time. Anyway, the teaser is - without sounding like a textbook 80s teenager - awesome. Go and watch it.

After 2001’s decidedly average The One, Jet Li and Jason Statham are now back alongside each other again in the upcoming War. Since 2001 Statham’s rise from supporting actor to full-blown action star has been pretty rapid, with The Transporter franchise taking centre stage and other films such as Crank performing well at the box office. On the other side of the billboard, Jet Li’s career really hasn’t changed much, his name still remains a crowd pleaser and he has headlined in a number of martial arts features such as Hero, Unleashed and Fearless. So ultimately it seems that War is more of a studio money spinner than anything special (I just stated the obvious). Anyway, the film seems to be made up of the same formula we are accustomed to: evil villain (Li: an assassin) versus the virtuous everyman (Statham: FBI renegade - rebel!) with a few flaws but ultimately the grit needed to kick the crap out of the bad guys. Ever since I first saw Halloween as a young kid, Michael Myers (oh for god’s sake, not Austin Powers) has always scared the absolute piss out of me. I shall never forgive John Carpenter for terrorizing my innocent little mind and forcing me to look over my shoulder at night for fear of a psychopathic killer wearing an ill-fitting rubber mask and wielding a rather sharp (and large) kitchen knife. And now Rob Zombie’s re-make is on the horizon, threatening to rekindle the flame of my traumatic relationship with Mr. Myers. Well, you’d think I could just cast my love for horror movies aside for a moment and avoid the upheaval of childhood fears, but there’s just one problem: the trailer looks awesome. God dammit, why am I such a glutton for punishment? Pfft, catch the trailer over at BDTV (it’s bad-ass, I promise).

Currently being billed as the next Shaun of the Dead, Fido provides a 1950s American take on the rapidly expanding zom-com genre. Starring Billy Connolly (Mrs Brown, The Last Samurai) Fido is the story of a kid called Timmy Robinson whose best friend just so happens to be a 6 foot zombie. In fact zombies are pretty much an every day part of life in Willard, they’ve been domesticated with the help of a collar developed by a company called Zomcon which allows the living to utilize zombies as gardeners, milkmen and whatever else they deem useful. But one day, Fido’s collar malfunctions and he ends up eating the Robinsons’ next door neighbour, what ensues is story of friendship, love and most enticingly, guts. Described by Anagram Pics as “a boy-and-his-dog movie for grown ups” Fido certainly doesn’t look as good as Shaun of the Dead, but the trailer does possess a certain charm and my unhealthy affinity for zombies will no doubt compel me to see it anyway. Forget Spider-man and Pirates of the Caribbean, The Bourne Ultimatum is the film that I am most looking forward to this year. Having watched Identity and Supremacy countless times I am readying myself for a spectacular end to Robert Ludlum’s excellently adapted trilogy. The trailer does contain a lot of footage from the first two films but you’ll also get a few fast-paced glimpses of what to expect from Ultimatum, which - I’m sure you’ll agree - is looking pretty damn fine. Head on over to Yahoo Movies for a glimpse of what to expect.
