Iron Man 2 Looks Awesome

I think we can all agree that Jon Favreau’s Iron Man was one of those rare adaptive triumphs and so it comes as no surprise that the trailer for Iron Man 2 looks similarly amazing. Mainly focused on Mickey Rourke’s inception as the fearsome villain Whiplash, we are also treated to welcome glimpses of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Don Cheadle as War Machine. Whiplash’s electric weapons look particularly menacing, although a bit limiting, so it will be interesting to see how he develops as a threat to Stark. It all comes across as very dramatic anyway and thanks to a rather booming soundtrack, makes me tingle when I watch it.

Tim Burton’s Second Alice in Wonderland Trailer

I’m going to be honest, I don’t think Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland looks very good (somebody will kick me in the nuts for saying that). It may be packed with the wonderful talents of Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Stephen Fry and Crispin Glover, to name but a few, but all the CGI looks a bit crappy and there doesn’t seem to be anything in the trailer which really makes my eyes wide and my pulse race. It makes me go, ‘oh, another Tim Burton film…’. I’m sure it’ll end up being pretty good, but all the hype is really quite annoying. One day I’m going to take acid and make a film where everything is a bit too large and flamboyant, everyone had better worship me then too.

Brooklyn’s Finest Trailer

A film starring Wesley Snipes that isn’t going straight to the discount DVD bin? I’m not kidding, Brooklyn’s Finest actually looks pretty bad ass. Of course, it also has Ethan Hawke, Richard Gere and Don Cheadle in it, so it’s not like Old Wes is carrying the damn thing. I’m just recovering from some sort of horrendous virus (unfortunately not the t-virus), so I can’t really be bothered to break it down too much, but this is what I ascertained from the trailer: guns, crime, drugs, money. Fast cuts and high octane action!

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the man behind Training Day, Brooklyn’s Finest is out next year. Watch the trailer over at Apple and get a little excited.

Toy Story 3 Trailer

Toy Story was one of the biggest films of my childhood, after maybe The Lion King, so the fact that there’s a third on the way makes me want to start wetting the bed all over again. This new trailer may not be considerably different to the one previously released, but you’re going to sit here, watch it and damn well enjoy it. When this finally hits cinemas, watching it had better make me feel like I’m being punched in the face with a handful of joy, or else…something.

Leaves of Grass Looks Dope

Lauded by Robert Ebert as the best film to premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, Edward Norton’s Leaves of Grass looks like it might actually be pretty decent. The film follows the story of two twins, both played by Norton, whose lives once again come together when one of them is lured back to their hometown to try and help the other scam a local drug lord. Basically, it’s a film about weed with Edward Norton in it. I don’t see any downsides. Anyway, forget my ramblings, you watch the teaser whilst I go and track down some of this Oklahoma home-grown it mentions.

Angelina Jolie is Evelyn Salt

The premise of Salt reminds me of Minority Report, which is ironic because apparently Tom Cruise was first choice for Angelina Jolie’s role. A CIA agent who is accused of being a sleeper for the Russian Government in a plot to kill the President? It would have been massive in the ’90s. Still, the trailer is fairly intriguing, if a little grainy (ooo, how gritty). Yahoo won’t allow me to embed, so here’s a damn link.

New Brothers Trailer…it’s Dramatic

This new trailer for Jim Sheridan’s Brothers is pretty damn dramatic. What happens when you think your husband is gone? You start to rebuild your life and then, boom! Your husband is back and everything is messed up. Then he goes fucking crazy and everyone starts shouting a lot and shooting shit, that’s what happens. I’m not that hyped about the film to be honest, apart from the fact that Natalie Portman is in it. Which, following the Natalie Portman law, makes a film twice as enjoyable regardless of its content.

Sheffield Doc/Fest is in Session

It’s already been on for a couple of days, but I think it would be an insult to the city if I didn’t mention the Sheffield Doc/Fest. I haven’t really had time to head down to the Showroom or any of the other participating buildings and check out what’s been going yet, but I’m attending one of the piracy masterclasses and have booked tickets for the screening of Penny Woolcock’s 1 Day on Sunday. I’m a sucker for inner-city crime (as long as I don’t get shot or mugged myself, of course). Anyway, head over to the Showroom or Official Doc/Fest site for more details.

Prince of Persia Trailer Released

Your excitement regarding Prince of Persia is probably directly related to how much video games you play. So basically, if you’re still sitting in your underwear and there’s an empty 2 litre bottle of coke beside you, you either need to wash and go to the fucking store or watch the damn trailer and get all sweaty over Gemma Arteron. She’s the best thing about it. Why wasn’t Quantum of Solace more about her and less focused on the environmentalist freak with the ironic surname? This world makes no sense, I want pizza.
